WC Varsity Baseball Team Completes Series Sweep of Cedar Springs Raise OK Blue Record To 12-3

Corey Murphy gave up two hits in the first inning then settled in and only allowed two more the rest of the way to pick up the shutout victory 5-0. He struck out 14 Red Hawk batters including eight straight at one point and didn’t allow a walk. Offensively the Falcons put a lot of pressure on the Cedar Springs defense but stranded 12 runners. They did score 2 in the first, one in the fourth, and two in the sixth. Casey Wila led all Falcon hitters going 3-3 with a walk and scored three runs. Corey Murphy added an RBI with a single. Mark Buitendyk doubled in two runs and Derrick Lewis added a two bagger. West Catholic is 15-8 overall, 12-3 in the league.

The Falcons step out of conference and travel to Grand Haven for a doubleheader Saturday.

West Catholic 8, Cedar Springs 1 Game two of the DH was called because of darkness after 4 innings, but that was enough time for the Falcons to score 8 runs. Timely hitting was the key including singles by Paul (The Hammer) VanHammen, Nick (please spell my name correctly) Sieracki and Jared (Stop calling me Jordan) Syrek and a triple by Mitch Stanitzek, (his second three bagger of the day). Mitch Miklosi picked up the win bringing the JV record up to 17-4. (12-1 conference.

West Catholic 11, Cedar Springs 9 A see saw battle in game one. We surrendered 3 run leads twice before closing out a tough hitting Red Hawk team. Brad Burns had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s and Alex LeMire knocked in 2 more. Mitch Stanitzek had a triple and Nick McNamara went 2 for 4 and picked up the win in relief.

WC Varsity Baseball Takes Two at Cedar Springs

West Catholic Varsity Baseball team traveled to Cedar Springs and kept an OK Blue Conference Championship in sight by beating the Redhawks 10-0 and 7-3. Game 1 was shortened by the mercy rule after 5. Game 2 was shortened by lightening after 5 innings. In game one it took only 45 pitches for Derrick Lewis to pick up the win. He allowed only one hit and that turned out to be the only base-runner of the game. He struck out five. Andy Corey led the offensive attack with a double, triple, 2 walks, and three RBI. Travis Rosinski added 2 singles and two RBI. Corey Murphy and Kevin Manser both doubled in game one. Mark Buitendyk, Luke Brechting, and Andy Woodruff each added one RBI.

In game two Trent Clark got the win giving up seven hits, striking out six and walking three. He helped his own cause with the bat by knocking in two runs. Andy Corey continued swinging a hot bat going 2-3 with a two run homer. Corey Murphy was 2-4 with a triple and an RBI. Derrick Lewis tripled and Andy Woodruff had a hit and two RBI.

The Falcons inproved their conference record to 11-3 and will host the Redhawks Thursday.

The lady falcons were on the road tonight and won 2 conference games against the redhawks of cedar springs. Freshman pitcher emily kimball won both games only giving up a TOTAL of 6 hits. Junior catcher riley ostapowicz had a dandy day hitting a triple a double and two singles. Senior centerfielder val stacey went 4 for 6 on the day day! The lady falcons will be home Thursday for the final game of the series @ 415pm.

West Catholic 9 GR Christian 0

GR Christian was not prepared for the pitching performance put on the by Nick McNamara. They scored 13 runs in their first game of the Tri-County tournament only to be shut-out by Nick in game 2. Nick threw 84% first pitch strikes and Christian didn’t stand a chance. Nick was also 3 for 3 at the plate (5 for 6 for the day) with two RBI’s in game two. Mitch Stanitzek had a bases loaded triple that pretty much put the game away. McNamara was helped out by a stellar defensive effort also. Two double plays were turned by the middle infield combo of Cal Wila and Alex LeMire. Brad Burns made a diving catch to rob a double from a Christian hitter.

West Catholic 7, Kent City 3

The Falcons showed up with hitting shoes on today. Putting up 7 runs on 10 hits against a very good Kent City pitcher. Nick McNamara and Alex LeMire both had two hits for the Falcons and Mitch Stantizek knocked in two. Christian Rogalski got the win and Jared Syrek the save. Christian recorded 8 strike-outs and allowed just 4 hits.

Girls Soccer fights to the end.

Last Thursday night the Girls Soccer team went up to Sparta for a OK-Blue showdown. Fans were treated to 100 minutes of great soccer action. The final score was a double overtime tie 0-0. Both these teamd also tied earlier in the season 4-4. 3 of the past 4 games with Sparta have gone the double O.T.route. Our girls dominated play and many scoring chances. Non were better than a crossing shot that Brandi Stein put only to be volleyed over the cross bar at the last second. Our girls fought hard. Coopersville comes to West on Monday, game time is 5:00 for the VARSITY. on Wednesday night we have our second pink-out game with Cedar Springs. Bring your loose change because we are have a penny challange with Cedar. We need all the help we can get. THANKS!!

WC Varsity Baseball Wins Final Game of Series Against Sparta

The Falcons improved their OK Blue record to 9-3 with a 10-9 come from behind extra inning victory at Sparta. West Catholic gave up 4 runs in the first, 2 in the third, and 3 in the fourth, but then held the Spartans scoreless the final four innings which allowed the offense time to get on track and pick up the win. The Falcons scored 5 in the third, 1 in the fourth, 3 in the sixth to tie the score at 9. A single run in the top of the 8th proved to be the game winner for West Catholic. Corey Murphy started pitching for the Falcons, he was relieved by Derrick Lewis with nobody out in the fourth and Derrick pitched spectacular from there to pick up the win. Offensively the Falcons were led by Andy Corey who scored three runs on two hits, Casey Wila was 3-4 with two runs scored and 2 RBI. Corey Murphy added three hits and three RBI and Luke Brechting scored three times with a couple hits.

The Falcons take the weekend off then face Cedar Springs in a three game series next week.
