Falcons News · Volleyball beats Comstock Park 3-1

The West Catholic Falcons hosted the Comstock Park Panthers Tuesday evening in the OK Blue Conference play. Set 1 both teams played solid side out volleyball with multiple lead changes; the Panthers had a three point lead at 22-19 as the Falcons took a timeout. Coming out of the timeout the Panthers finished set one 25-19. Coming into the second set the Falcons came out of the gate in a very poised fashion. Senior, Brooke Wila went on a seven point serving run late in the game to help the Falcons close out set two 25-13. The Panthers wouldn’t stop there; again in set three both teams traded off leads. Comstock Park called at timeout at 18-22, but that didn’t stop the Falcons from finishing off set three with a 25-22 win. Set four was no different, Coach Kulak called at timeout with both teams tied at 18. Her squad pulled together to take the match at 25-20.

“This was not only a good team win, but a good character win for our girls. We worked extremely hard the past few practices on cleaning up first contact, and tonight I thought our serve receive improved immensely. We had a few moments when we felt like we were being pushed up against the wall, but our kids dug deep and didn’t give up until the match was over.”

Leaders for the match:

Kills: Brooke Wila (8), Anna Smith (7), Brooke Norder & Cameron Mannion (6)

Assists: Paige Stratton (20), Haley Russell (15)

Aces: Brooke Wila (5), Brooke Norder (3)

Digs: Kristyn Sack (8)

Blocks: Kate Nawrocki (5)

The Falcons travel to the Zeeland East Invitational this Saturday, September 26th. The following Tuesday, September 29th, they will travel to Belding to resume OK Blue Conference play.
