Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · West Catholic Softball Celebrates Four Outstanding Seniors


The West Catholic Falcons celebrated four seniors graduating with the class of 2017 this evening before a single game against Unity Christian. All four of the seniors are starters for the Falcons and make a tremendous impact both on and off the field.

Senior Captain, Nicole Szymczak acts as a solid and consistent second baseman and picther for the Falcons with a .609 fielding percentage thus far in the season and 8 doubles at the plate. Szymczak also earned Individual Academic All-State and will be attending Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) in the fall within the Dental Hygiene Program.


Senior shortstop and pitcher, Anna Smith provides a solid defense and powerhouse¬†offensive performance with a batting average of .398, 22 RBI’s and her second home run today during the Falcons’ game against Unity Christian. Smith will be attending Grand Valley State University in the fall.


In the circle as pitcher and shortstop, Kristen Kimball has played varsity for the Falcons all four years at West Catholic. Raking up All-conference, All-district and Advanced All-Area North during previous seasons Kimball is on a season high with 181 strikeouts and .935 fielding percentage. Kimball is also a captain for the Falcons and will be continuing her softball career at Aquinas College to study Nursing in the fall.


Senior Lauren Zielinski wraps up the outstanding senior class as the starting left fielder. Zielinski has a .876 fielding percentage and 13 put outs on the season. She also received Individual Academic All-State this season. Zielinski will be attending Ferris State University in the fall to study optometry.


All four of the seniors play a large role in the success of the Falcons this season. The Falcons will play at the Portland High School Suzzane J. Buche/Cancer Awareness Tournament on Saturday beginning at 10 am.
