Falcons News · West Catholic Wins it’s 5th Consecutive State Championship

The Falcons squared off tonight on the final game of the season for the Division 5 State Championship against the Vikings of Saginaw Swan Valley.

With the Vikings kicking off to start the game, the Falcons drove the ball down the field and a 32 yard TD pass from Gaetano Vallone to Zack Lee made it 7-0 early.

A great defensive stand by West Catholic allowed the Falcons to get the ball back and nail a 20 yard field goal by Liam Puts making the score 10-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.

With the Vikings starting with the ball at their own 20 yard line, Senior Zaavon Scott intercepted the Swan Valley QB for a 28 yard touchdown making it 17-0 West Catholic early in the 2nd quarter.

Continued domination on defense led to the play of the night when Vallone threw the ball up for grabs and junior Jack Schichtel made the catch of the year as he pinned the ball one handed against the defender ending in a Touchdown to make it 24-0 before the half.

At the start of the 3rd quarter the Falcons continued to suffocate the Viking offense forcing another turnover on downs as Mitchell Doyle also intercepted a pass. With the momentum still heavily favoring West Catholic, Vallone ran it in to the end zone to make it 31-0.

Late in the game Putz added insurance points to make it 34-0 on a 29 yard Field goal. Swan Valley made it in to the end zone themselves, but it was not enough in the end.

West Catholic finished the night 34-7 and completed the 5-peat as the Division 5 State Champions for a fifth consecutive year!
