West Catholic traveled to Forest Hills Northern on Thursday for a DH that was originally scheduled to be played at Michigan State University but cancelled because of rain. The Falcons won game one 8-4. Offensively the Falcons were led by Gaetano Vallone’s two run home run. Zander Jacobson and Sean Kosnik each added a pair of hits for West Catholic while Braden Nawrocki, Chris Markules, and Luke VanHammen each had 1 hit. Gaetano Vallone earned the win for West Catholic. He threw six and a third innings, giving up four runs, seven hits, and striking out nine. Sean Kosnik recorded the final two outs of the game for the Falcons. The win improved West Catholic’s record to 20-12 on the season.

Game Recap

The falcons bats came alive in the second game of the double header pounding out 16 hits. Nick Korzeniauskas and Connor Chrystan each had 3 hits, including an RBI double. Patin, Cornelius, Bocian and Sakoski each had 2 hits. Sakoski had a 2 run triple in the second inning. Chrystan and Patin each scored 3 runs a piece. Rounding out the offense were Luke Worrell and Max Goodfellow each with an RBI single. Connor Chrystan earned the win for the falcons pitching 3 2/3 inning, scattering 3 hits, walking 5 and striking out 6 only giving up 4 earned runs. Andrew Kasparek and Adam Bocian closed out the game, holding onto victory.

The freshman falcons close the season out this Thursday against Wyoming high school at Lamar Park.

Game Recap

The falcons won the first game behind an excellent pitching performance by Brennen Cornelius. He pitched 5 strong innings, giving up only 1 hit, walking 2, and striking out 2. The defense was outstanding committing no errors. Offensively, the falcons drew 8 walks, and only 2 hits, by Connor Chrystan and Jake Bozek. Brennen Cornelius and Nick Korzeniauskas each had sacrifice fly out resulting in RBI’s. Sakoski walked twice and scored a run.

Rain, wind, cold, you name it, we competed in it! WC Boys Track & Field traveled to Saugatuck facing off with 14 other schools last Friday for Regional competition. The 4×800 consisting of senior captain Conor O’Brien, senior captain Jacob Schantz, Matt Jager, and Malachi Mills began racing events with a season best time of 8:33 snagging 3rd place. Junior Michael Edozie shined taking 7th in the 100 M Dash and 6th in the 200 M Dash.  He led off the 4×100 handing to Reid Misner, Nick Dorato, & senior captain Nick Bollman finishing 6th.  Edozie also led off the 4×200 teaming with senior captain Roger Phaneuf, Dorato, & Bollman crossing the finish line 8th. Sophomore Malachi Mills made a good run at state competition with 3rd place season best 53.8 sec. in the tough open 400 M along side senior captain Zane Timmer. Roger Phaneuf raced a record time lead leg blowing away competition in the 4×400.  The rest of the 4×400 consisting of sophomore Jack Schichtel, Jager, and Mills each had season best split times crossing the line in 3rd place capping the evening running events.  Conor O’Brien ran off with a 6th place medal in the 1600 while sophomore Chase Boshoven shattered his own mile record time by 13 seconds! Rain, cold, and wind did not stop Boshoven and freshman Vinny Ladner from gutting out personal best times in the 2 mile. Sophomore Casey Rheault sailed to a personal record of 18.2 in the 110 hurdles along side junior Josh Kohane who also competed hard in the 300 hurdles. Junior Nathaniel Mitchell and sophomore John Luc Richmond threw in the rain with Mitchell snagging a 7th place medal in discus. Jack Schichtel had a tremendous evening with a personal best in the 300 hurdles, 44.1 sec. and an astonishing personal best of 11’9″ in pole vault improving by 15 inches! Reid Misner impressed as usual in pole vault clearing 12’9″ sending him on to the State Meet June 3rd at Comstock Park.  So proud of all WC track athletes for a great season!

On a cold and rainy day in Saugatuck, Reid Misner found a way to qualify for the State Track Meet where only the top athletes will compete.  The junior standout soared 12’9″  in pole vault and will try to improve this mark on June 3rd at Comstock Park HS.  Make the 7 minute drive from WC to see Reid compete on June 3rd.  Good Luck Reid!

Game Recap

The West Catholic Falcons defeated Calvin Christian Monday, 5-2. Leading the win for the Falcons was senior Anna Smith. Smith pitched the entire game for the Falcons only allowing two runs and at the plate hit a deep solo home run over the left field fence. Along with Smith, Jessica Clark, Nicole Szymczak and Megan Beekman each collected two hits. To continue the presence at the plate Morgan Hipp, Lauren Zielinski and Dana Wila all added a hit a piece to push the Falcons to the win. The Falcons face Unity Christian at home Thursday for their Senior Day Celebration.

West Catholic dropped a non – conference game at Calvin Christian Monday afternoon by the score of 10-6. Braden Nawrocki hit a 2 run homer for the Falcons, Gaetano Vallone and Sean Kosnik each added doubles. Zander Jacobson had two singles and Tyler Hofmann one for West Catholic. Alex Richmond got the start and took the loss for the Falcons, he pitched 3 innings, allowed 8 runs, 6 earned, 6 hits, he walked 4 and struck out 2. Mike Miller pitched the final 3 innings in relief. Miller allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, he walked 2 and struck out 1. The loss dropped the Falcons record to 19-12 on the season.

Game Recap

The West Catholic JV baseball team defeated Grandville Calvin Christian 13-5 behind a big seven run first inning. The Falcons had 15 hits for the the game, Josh Tuttle led the team with four hits, Josh Sedlecky had three, Noah Doyle, Caden Wright, and Nic Blundy each had two hits, Nick Van Vliet and Nick Kimball had one each. Mitchell Doyle pitched six innings giving up five runs on 11 hits, with one strikeout and one walk. Nic Blundy threw a quick seventh inning, getting three groundouts on just five pitches.

The Falcon JV team will finish their season on Tuesday, May 30 with a double header at home against Forest Hills Northern.
