Meet Recap

In super soggy conditions, the girls cross country team splashed their way through a tough race against mostly D1/D2 teams Saturday at the Kent/Ottowa Meet at Gainey Field. Though the rain and mud caused the runners to slow down, almost all of the team posted faster times than when they ran there three weeks ago! Finishing first and second for West were Ambria Druell and Michaela Quam. Hope Thome, with another PR, finished third for the team with a one minute two second time decrease from three weeks ago! Also racing much faster in the varsity race was Ellen Green, SR/PR’ing with a 1:40 decrease, 4th for the team! 5th-10th for West were Kylie Beaudoin, Alyssa May, Colleen Ryan, Lauren Guiterrez, Clare Anderson, and Carly Duba. West’s 5 finishers in the JV race were Erin Mangan, Abby Nawrocki with a SR/PR and a 3:25 time decrease!, Maggie Schichtel, Sylvia Dusseau, and Abby Needham. These girls are some serious Tough Mudders!

Game Recap

Tonight the Falcons and Cougars squares off at Faith Third Ballpark in a battle for first place in the OK Blue. The falcons elected to receive but were forced to punt but a Cougar fumble led to the Falcons retaining the ball and scoring on a quick pass from Gaetano Vallone to Nick Dorato to make it 7-0 Falcons.

With the ensuing kickoff, the Cougars went three and out but forced a turnover to tie it 7-7.

After two more Catholic Central scores, it was 21-7 CC but right before the half, Gaetano found Dorato once again for a 52 yard touchdown to cut the lead to 21-14 at the half.

The West Catholic defense held tough stopping CC and forcing a punt to start the second half and the Falcons drove down the field with a hard run for a TD by Zack Lee.

As CC scored on another long drive, the Falcons came within 2 points once again as Zaavon Scott scored on a dart from Vallone to make it 35-33.

In the end, the Falcons ran out of time and lost by the final of 35-33. A hard fought battle between to great teams. The Falcons will play at home vs Allendale to end the regular season next Friday.

Girls Varsity Swimming · Meet Results: 10/7/17 Ottawa Hills Invitational

Our girls have done an amazing job so far this season, it’s crazy to think that we only have about a month left. With this being said, we are so impressed with how the girls manage themselves. Despite the day being a little crazy with the band marching in the parade etc., the girls were excited for the races. We have not had a single meet yet where our girls did not swim well.

Girls Varsity Swimming · Meet Results: 9/21/17 DKTK Hastings v. GRWC

This meet was number two out of three for the week that we faced. With the meet just prior to this one only two days before we anticipated the girls to be much more worn out when starting their races. Not only did the meet fly by, but our girls were applauded for their great cheering, and swam more best times. At this meet one of our girls broke 30 seconds for the first time.

Our girls are amazing at adapting to the environment when they must. With a couple of our girls out for injuries etc. we adjusted races last minute. Thrown into races 5 minutes prior became an adjustment a few of them faced- these races also showed a ton of improvement and willpower with some new best times.

Game Recap

The Falcons hosted the Broncos of Coopersville in a tough OK Blue showdown Tuesday night. Coopersville came out with high energy and forced the Falcons to make some unforced errors early in the match to jump to a 2-0 lead. But that didn’t stop the Falcons from fighting back. Sets 3 and 4 were nail biters until the end with West winning both by just 2 points. In the fifth set Coopersville pulled ahead with an early lead and it was too much for the Falcons to catch back up. Lots of determination and effort came from both sides and played some good volleyball. The Falcons will travel to Sparta on Thursday.

Leaders for tonight’s match:
Aces: Kendall Krueger, Cameron Mannion and Elise Bolthouse (2)
Kills: Cameron Mannion (13), Brooke Norder (11), Ally Schaefer (8)
Blocks: Allyson Milligan (5)
Assists: Morgan Hipp (36)
Digs: Elise Bolthouse (22), Brooke Norder (21), Morgan Hipp (19).
