Falcons News · Track & Field Workouts Begin This Thursday


WC Track & Field will begin non mandatory workouts this Thursday, January 21st.  We will be practicing indoors after school every Tuesday and Thursday for approximately 1 hour until 4 pm. Distance runners may go outside weather permitting. These workouts will continue until mandatory practices begin the 2nd week of March.  If you would like to join the team, please email jklein1974@yahoo.com.  Go West!

Boys Varsity Cross Country, Girls Varsity Cross Country · Cross Country Meeting June 10th 6 PM


Any 9th-12th grade  boy or girl interested in running cross country for the 2014 Fall season is invited to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday June 10th at 6:00 PM in the Team Room at West Catholic. Summer runs, camp, meet schedule and practices will be discussed. Parents and runners are invited. If you can’t attend but are still interested in running, please contact head coach Emily Hoffman.

Falcons News · FALCON BOYS & GIRLS TRACK TEAMS PLACE 2ND & 3RD IN FRANK GRIMM RELAYS


The West Catholic Falcon Boys & Girls Track teams participated this past weekend in the Annual Frank Grimm Relays. The meet is named after Wyoming Park’s former long-time coach.

The meet is split into two divisions (Upper & Lower) each consisting of 8 teams based on school enrollment size, with West Catholic participating lower division.

The boy’s team took home the 2nd Place Trophy and the girl’s team took 3rd place.

The Girls Falcon Track Team returned home on Thursday April 24th for a Dual Conference Meet against Forest Hills Northern. The Falcons fell by a close score of 75-62.

Mother Nature has allowed the outdoor Track & Field Season to finally begin.

The Lady Falcons season began with their first home meet on Wednesday April 16th  against Cedar Springs and again on Saturday April 19th at the Comstock Park Invitational.

On Wednesday April 16th the girls lost to a hard-fought battle to a strong Cedar Springs squad 72.5 to 64.5.

Multiple Teams · Fish Fry Volunteers This Week


More fish dinners will be served up  this Friday at West Catholic! Please come support West Catholic athletics.

Many volunteers are needed for food preparation and serving the 600-900 meals each week to our dining patrons.

Sports teams are assigned dates to supply athlete and parent volunteers.   This is also an opportunity for service hours for any student.

Falcons News · Falcon Track & Field is Off and Running


The West Catholic Track and Field ladies began their season yesterday at the GVSU invitational.  This season brings many new athletes with lots of talent to the track team.  Some highlights include Mary Mason and Leah Defouw finishing 9th and 10th overall respectively in the 60 meter hurdles. The 4 x 300 meter relay team of Abby Groskiewicz, Mary Mason, Erin Feist, and Cassidy Scarpino had an impressive 6th place finish. Scarpino was also part of of the 2nd place 4 x 600 meter relay team joined by Sophia Phaneuf, Kateri Mills, and Brooke Pitsch.  Newcomer senior, “where have you been”, Macky Hartwell soared to 3rd place in high jump finishing at 4’10”. Sophomore Cassie Ford was close behind clearing 4’6″. Freshman Erin Feist had a stellar 5th place finish in pole vault flying to 7’0″. Sophomore Maria Kohane showed her skills long jumping to a 4th place finish of 14’8″.  There are many new and young athletes this year being led by the tremendous leadership of our veteran seniors.  We are looking forward to a fun and successful season.  Join us for our next track meet in Belding on Tuesday, April 1st at 4 pm.  The Falcons host their first home meet April 15th vs. Cedar Springs at 4 pm.

Falcons News · Falcon Boys Track and Field win MITCA State Meet


The Falcon boys track team set out to impress at MITCA last Saturday in Kent City.  They dominated the invitation only track meet taking first place.  Lasavian Majewski raced to a 2nd place finish in the 100 meter and 200 meter.  Joe Harmon followed with 3rd place finishes in the 200 meter and the 400 meter.  Majewski and Harmon are also part of the 4×200 relay team joining Josh Ford and Ben Serra which claimed 3rd place.  Majewski and Ford also teamed with Matt Anderson, Brody Heitzman in the 4×100 which took 3rd place.  The boys 4×400 relay team of Harmon, Serra, Heitzman and Hunter Ostopowicz finished the meet in 3rd place as well.  Ryker Huizenga had an impressive effort in the 2 mile finishing 5th overall.  The Falcon girls had several impressive finishes at MITCA as well. Rachel Dolphin was 5th in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.  Lexi Bowe also claimed a 5th place finish in pole vault.  Next up for the Falcon track teams is the State Meet at Comstock Park High School this Saturday.  Many of our athletes have worked very hard to qualify for the State Meet.  Please come support your Falcons.  Final Running events begin at 1 pm at Comstock Park.

The Falcon Track and Field team continued to impress last Friday night at the regional track meet.  The Boys finished 4th in the region while the girls finished 2nd.  Rachel Dolphin ran her way to 2 first place finishes in the 100 and 200 meter dashes sending her to the State track meet on June 1st in Comstock Park.  She is also part of 2 state qualifying relay teams.  The 4×100 team of Dolphin, Tara Martin, Leah Defouw, and Cassidy Scarpino finished 2nd.  Dolphin, Scarpino, Defouw, and Abby O’Rouke also took second in the  4×200 relay.  The girls 4×400 relay team consisting of Sophia Phaneuf, Lexi Bowe, O’Rourke and Scarpino is also State bound.   Bowe and O’Rourke also finished 3rd and 4th in Pole Vault.  Leah Defouw placed 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles while Cassidy Scarpino finished a state qualifying 2nd in the 300 hurdles.  The girls 4×800 team of Phaneuf, Brooke Pitsch, Bailey Laske, and Ellen Hackett finished 3rd.  In the boys competition, Lasavian Majewski took 2nd in the 100 meter dash.  He is also part of a state bound 4×200 team with Ben Serra, Joe Harmon, and Josh Ford.  Harmon is state bound in the 200 and 400 where he finished 2nd in both. Brody Heitzman was a close 3rd in the 400 meter dash.  Heitzman & Harmon are also part of a state qualifying 4×400 team joining Ben Serra & Hunter Ostopowicz. The 4×400 team finished 2nd.  Next up for the Falcons is MITCA, an invitation only track meet for top scoring teams.  That meet takes place this Saturday in Kent City.  The Division 3 State Track Meet is June 1st at Comstock Park High School.  Come support your Falcons as they RUN to success!

The Falcon Track and Field teams will travel to Cedar Springs this Thursday and Friday to compete in Conference action.  The activities begin at 4:30 pm on both days with field events starting out the afternoon and final running events Friday evening.  Please join us at Cedar Springs to support your Falcons!  Regional Action will take place next week.  Stay tuned for Conference results.
